Your personal tracking data stays on your device. There is no Gramello account or automatic diary sync between devices. Use a Gramello backup to keep a copy or move your data to another phone.
Export a complete backup
- Open Settings → Advanced and find Your data.
- Tap Export backup.
- Use your device's sharing options to save the file somewhere you can access later, such as your chosen file storage.
- Check that the file was saved before removing the app, clearing its data, or retiring the device.
The backup includes your diary, recipes, custom foods, water history, and goals. It is a copy from the time you export it; later entries need a new backup. Anyone with access to an exported file can read it, so choose its storage and sharing destination carefully.
Restore or move to another phone
- Make the backup file accessible on the destination device and open Gramello there.
- Go to Settings → Advanced → Import backup and select the Gramello backup file.
- Review its date and record count in Replace this diary?.
- If you want to replace the destination device's data, tap Replace and import. Choose Cancel to leave it as it is.
- Open Diary and check your entries. Check My meals and Settings too.
Import replaces rather than merges. It replaces the diary, recipes, custom foods, water history, and goals on this device. Export the destination device's current data first if you want a separate copy. Installed food catalogs are unaffected.
Recover the diary from before an import
Gramello keeps the current diary as a recovery copy when replacing it. If a recovery copy is available, Recover previous diary appears in Settings → Advanced.
- Tap Recover previous diary.
- Read the replacement notice. Recovery also replaces the current personal data.
- Tap Recover diary to proceed, or Cancel to keep the current diary.
Recovery is for the previous replacement; it is not a history of every edit or an alternative to keeping exported backups.
Export data for a spreadsheet
Choose Export diary CSV or Export water CSV in Settings → Advanced, then save or share the file. CSV files are for reading in spreadsheets. Use Export backup when you need a file that can restore the complete diary.
Update the food catalog
Food information updates automatically when available. To check immediately, open Settings → Advanced → Food catalog → Check for updates. Installed foods remain available offline; downloading an update requires a connection.
Catalog updates do not sync or back up your personal diary. If you lose a device without an accessible backup, Gramello support cannot restore its diary from a server copy. See support for help with an import or export error.
