Start in Diary, choose the date, and tap the + next to the meal you want to add to. Food is logged to that selected date, including when you are viewing an earlier day.
Search and choose a portion
- In Search foods, enter at least two characters of a food, brand, or product name. Matches appear as you type, with more added automatically after a short pause. Use the food-category and brand/restaurant filters to narrow a long list. Load more shows the next results; Find more matches expands a broad search.
- Select a match. Check the brand, source, serving description, and nutrition. Expand a size group to choose the exact serving. Check any spelling suggestion or missing-description warning. Use View nutrition source when available.
- Choose Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Snacks under Add to meal.
- Choose an available unit and enter your amount. Review the updated calories, protein, carbs, and fat before saving.
- Tap Add to breakfast, Add to lunch, Add to dinner, or Add to snacks.
Weight-based foods can offer grams and ounces; volume-based foods can offer milliliters and US fluid ounces. Foods with no known weight may only offer servings. An ounce by weight is different from a fluid ounce. Check the serving description before assuming that one serving is a whole package.
A Verified label identifies a published source, not a guarantee that the information matches your food. Check the package label and portion size.
Scan or type a barcode
- In Add food, tap Scan barcode.
- Allow camera access if you want to scan. Hold the product barcode steady in the frame with good light.
- To type instead, choose Enter barcode manually, enter the Barcode number, and tap Look up barcode. You can use the number field without camera access.
- Review the returned food, select your portion and meal, and add it to the diary.
If there is no match, search by name or add a custom food. A successful scan reads the barcode; it does not guarantee that the product exists in the food database.
Add a custom food
- In Add food, choose Add custom food.
- Enter the food name, an optional brand, and a Serving description, such as “1 bowl” or “2 slices.”
- Enter calories, protein, carbs, and fat for that entire serving. Add its weight in grams if you know it; otherwise leave the optional weight blank.
- Tap Save custom food. Your food is saved on this device and labeled Unverified.
- On the amount screen, choose how much you ate and tap the Add to button to log it. Saving the custom food alone does not add a diary entry.
Correct or remove an entry
Open the right date in Diary, tap the trash icon beside the food, and confirm with Remove food. To correct its portion or meal, remove the old entry and add the food again with the right details. Keep food cancels removal.
When search is unavailable
Downloaded foods, saved online results, and your custom foods remain available offline. Online searches and new online barcode lookups need a connection. If you see Some nutrition databases are unavailable, open Show details; you can still select an available match or add a custom food.
For catalog updates, open Settings → Advanced → Check for updates. If a specific food is incorrect, contact support with its name, brand, and source.
